ANDREW W.K. Addresses The OBITUARY Connection

March 16, 2004

ANDREW W.K. was recently asked by a fan if having drummer Donald "D.T." Tardy of the legendary death metal band OBITUARY backing him up brings in fans who otherwise wouldn't be listening to the music he plays. "It's cool that you're asking that now because I've been thinking about OBITUARY a lot lately," Andrew responded in the Q&A section of his official web site. "I just hung up an autographed 'Cause Of Death' tour poster on my wall that I bought years before I ever even got to meet Donald. I have it on my wall and I'm looking at it right now! It looks awesome!

"So yeah, OBITUARY just played a concert in St. Pete Florida the other day!" Andrew continued. "It was their first concert in 7 years! I flew down there to see the concert and it was hands down one of the GREATEST days of my entire life! I don't mean just one of the greatest concerts, I mean ONE OF THE GREATEST AND BEST THINGS I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! Getting to see and hear OBITUARY lay out the heaviest tunes ever with John screaming better than ever and D.T. laying down a solid pound heavier than ever...

"I'm getting so happy just thinking about it now. I totally slammed and felt it out the whole way through and I was drenched in sweat by the end of their set. Everyone was really happy. NASTY SAVAGE and Jon Oliva (of SAVATAGE) played too and they were FANTASTIC. Between those three bands and a bunch of other cool bands it was UNBEATABLE. It's as much fun as I've ever had my entire life.

"So, anyway, yeah, every now and then I'll meet somebody who found out about us because they are an OBITUARY fan. It's really awesome when I meet people like that because it's cool to talk about how much we both love OBITUARY and start to jam out the songs and slam it. I know that there are some people out there who also things it sucks that D.T. is playing with us, but that's understandable. Sometimes people love one kind of music so much that their heart is too full to even get anything more inside... I totally can relate to that. But I hope that people are psyched that Donald's playing with us — WE sure are. He's the best drummer and the best dude and I'm just thankful for every day he's part of this party! It's always a total pleasure to meet another music fan that loves whatever feels good and I'm honored if OBITUARY fans out there get into this music at all. AWESOME!!!"
